OUR BOARD OF TRUSTEES
And
ADVISORY BOARD
We possess a diversity of life experiences, talents, skills, knowledge and backgrounds coupled with a love of theatre - - particularly this theatre - - along with a willingness to do whatever it takes to enhance and improve the level of theatre excellence Rocky Mountain Repertory Theatre has attained.
This was the answer given by an RMRT Board of Trustees member when asked about involvement on RMRT’s Boards and how they are able to accomplish what they do.
I think that there may be an image that comes to the minds of many when the term Board of Trustees is heard - - an image of very serious individuals seated around a very large mahogany table in a walnut-paneled board room, grimly contemplating some very important issues. Well, we do plenty of that! (Truth is that we use two folding tables shoved together and somehow, with the able help of our executive director, Carol Wolff, manage to squeeze fifteen to twenty board, advisory board and artistic staff people into our executive office.)
This is serious business - - and it IS a business - - but what some may not realize is what goes on between those meetings. Truly, this is a working and involved board in every sense - - and it goes way beyond the obvious of our paramount responsibility, that of ensuring that there is money there to pay for salaries, royalties, costumes, the mortgage on OFF BROADWAY (our company housing), insurance, advertising, printed material, office rent, utilities - - you get the idea.
When the artistic staff and troupe arrives, this Board and Advisory Board, indeed, the Grand County Community, embrace them - - literally and figuratively. I guess you might say that we take them under our wings. We throw a Welcome Barbecue for them and include town dignitaries - - we all cook. They come to our homes for dinner. We prepare goodies and take them to them. With the help of our wonderful volunteers we make their housing as clean and comfy and cozy as any group of cabins nestled in the woods can possibly be. Theatres function in as many different ways as there are theatres, and some of our troupe members have mentioned never having met board members at other theatres. I cannot imagine that ever happening in Grand Lake! It’s just not who or what we are. What we have here is unique.
The work is year round - -and there’s lots of it. This theatre never ever hibernates!
Then why do they do it? Said one board member:
“There is not enough money in the world to pay me to do what I do for RMRT. It’s a labor of love. We’ve assembled an incredibly talented and capable artistic staff who in turn assemble some of the finest young professionals in the country to breathe life into our productions. You wonder why we do it? Be there Opening Night. You’ll understand.”
