Bob attended public schools in Dublin and Stephenville, Texas. He went to Tarleton State University, Park College in Kansas City, MO and Baylor University in Texas. At Tarleton State he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. He has degrees in English and history and has a lifetime teaching certification from Tarleton State. He was director of the Tarleton State University Foundation for 3 terms.
For 20 years he operated Scott's Flowers On the Square and In the Garden in Stephenville, Texas. Beginning in 1969, he worked during the summers for the Rocky Mountain Park Co., Estes Park Chalet and Grand Lake Lodge. At the Grand Lake Lodge, his positions ranged from restaurant manager to hospitality manager to gift shop manager and buyer. He was also in charge of the Native American arts and crafts sales and appraisals.
In the 1970's, he worked as a consultant for Denver's Museum of Nature and Science in the Native American Arts and Crafts Division. He has also been director of sales for the Tonahutu Ridge Subdivision in Grand Lake, Colorado.
He was on the Administrative Board of the First Methodist Church and is currently a member of the First Baptist Church, both in Stephenville, Texas. His Texas affiliations include: The Governor's Committee on Aging, the Texas State Historical Association, Historical Survey Commission for Erath County, Treasurer and Board member of the Historical House Museum in Stephenville and Cross Timbers Fine Arts Council. Additionally, he was the Chairman for the Committee to restore the Erath County Court House. Bob is a Texas Master Florist, a member of the Stephenville Federated Garden Club, an antique and fine arts appraiser, as well as a member of the Stephenville Chamber of Commerce.
On the East Coast, Bob has been affiliated with the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake, New York and the Adirondack Architectural Heritage Society. In the Southwest, he has been involved in the Indian Arts and Crafts Association in Albuquerque, New Mexico and the Southwest Association of Indian Affairs in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
He has been extensively involved in Grand Lake, Colorado. His associations include: the Arts Council, the town's Variance Board, Friends of the Library, the Chamber of Commerce and the Catch the Spirit Organization. He has also been associated with the Grand County Historical Association and has been a Rocky Mountain Repertory Theatre supporter since 1969 and a Trustee since 2001.
Bob has been a Rotarian since 1982, has been on the Board of Directors of the United Way, is affiliated with NAACP and was a driver for 10 years for the Meals on Wheels program.
